The Father of Modern Astronomy

Thanks Tara & Laura on the collaboration for a very nice name of this piece.

The first shot gives you an idea of the physical distance between the Kopernick Sculpture and The Basilica. I created this piece to depict the irony/marriage or however you want to call it between church and science which as many of us know has not always seen eye to eye.

The first shot is the original unprocessed shot. the next 3 are renderings, which one do you prefer? (Click on the images to see full resolution)

The Kopernick Sculture was gift from the Polish-American community ot the city of Philadelphia in honor of Mikolaj Kopernick, considered to the the father of modern astronomy.

The Most Romantic View in Philly

Like many Philadelphians and visittors alike, I really enjoy photographing the Rustic Pavillion for it's fairy tale charm. For this shot, I specifically waited for the sun to just finish setting in order to capture vivid blue sky. The image I wanted to create was this magical place where at the end of a winding uphill journey was a destination where one can could rest the mind and seek clarity on life's philosphical questions.

I turned the shot pink to create warmth, magic, and romance.

What is also fascinating about the Pavillion is the history behind it. It was built as a dedication to Fitz Eugene Dixon, Jr., a American educator, sportsman, and philanthropist. Mr. Dixon comes from the well-known Widener family with far-reaching influence and contributions to the Philadelphia region from the Widener University, Love Statue on JFK Blvd, and ownership of all 4 Philadelphia major sports teams. Stumbling on Glowing Edges

This evening I stumbled on a simple filtering effect call "glowing edges" which turned the Liberty 1 shot into a pretty cool piece of art.

This shot was captured today on 10.27.2010
